cable fixing, testing

today we fixed and tested some cables that were in pauls "broken pile" here are two images of one of the cables that was thought to be broken. when testing with a multimeter, came back negative. this shows that often people throw away cables thinking they are broken, when in this case it certainly was not.

makes you think where the problem actually was.

avitel distribution amp fix

faulty 3100 da
when plugged into a working rack and power supply an output was given to the vectorscope.Bars were fed through as this was easiest to monitor.
The rack was pre checked with similar 3100 series working cards.

Initial check for faulty components with a multimetre and checking tracks on the circuit board. The first observation was a loose connection in a transister on the board. This was sealed with fresh solder.

The second evalution of the card showed that the card was now operational as colour bars were shown. But the oscillation on the vectorscope was indicating that this card still had some problems.

A further look into the conditions of the capasitors revealed 3 poorly degraded caps. All 4 were replaced with higher voltage ones and moved futher from the heat sinks on the card as this may have been a factor in the deterioration of the old capasitors.

It was plugged back into the rack for another review of the colour bars. We initially thought that this would be a simple fix but as the vectorscope displayed more oscillation this was not the case.
